Student Leadership

Ss Peter and Paul students are encouraged to follow Jesus’ model of servant leadership as they put their needs aside in order to meet the needs of others.

Leadership is about the art of motivating, influencing and directing people so that they work together to achieve the goals of a team or broader organisation. It’s important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn to identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Leadership begins with identifying and understanding our values. Our values are our fundamental beliefs – those principles we consider to be worthwhile and desirable. At Ss Peter and Paul, all Year 6 students exercise leadership in different contexts within formal teams and roles.

How does Ss Peter and Paul aim to achieve this?
  • We assume responsibility for serving others in order to achieve the mission of the team.
  • We attempt to lead by example and encourage other team members to develop positively as individuals.
  • We expect leaders be authentic, who will listen to people and who serve others before themselves in the model of Mary MacKillop, the founder of our school.

Students at Ss Peter and Paul have the opportunity to experience leadership through the following avenues:

  • Formal and informal leadership positions;
  • The challenges of academic achievement in assessment tasks;
  • Opportunities to achieve success with friends and peers in the classroom, on sporting fields and on the stage;
  • Showing appreciation for beauty and culture in artistic enterprises; and
  • Striving to embody the Catholic values and faith for which we stand.
